Favorite Christmas Activity so far

Our good friends the Deans invited us to spread some Christmas cheer yesterday. It was the best thing we have done so far this month to bring on the Christmas spirit. We both loved it and hope we can remember to count our blessings everyday of coming new year. It all started with our friend Sandi's birthday on the 17th. Instead of gifts she got donated blankets from all her party goers. We needed a home for all those blankets and after asking around she found a friend who knew of some needy familys.

They decided to give more than just the blankets. That is when they invited us to join them in their secret santa fun. It started out with getting gifts for two familys. One was a single mom and 17 year old boy. The second family was from Afghanistan with parents and 4 kids.

We didn't know them and they didn't know us but we had a great time visiting stores and finding just the right thing for each person. All we had was a name and age of each person. We wrapped each one up, stuffed them into the trunk and then drove to their homes. Unloaded the car full of toys and clothes and food.

We rang the doorbell and just started singing. They listened politely and then we started handing them gifts. Both families invited us in and thank us over and over. The single mom had nothing but old rugs in her living room -not a stick of furniture but she didn't seem to mind having us all crowd in there and sing - she even sang with us. The they hugged every one of us (9 adults and 3 kids) before we left.

The kids at this family were the cutest things. Their eyes were so big and their delight was very evident. They didn't know us from Adam but accepted our smiles and good cheer wanting us to sit and stay awhile but we couldn't because then we would have to tell our source! When we got home I said a long silent prayer for each of them - hoping they would know that God loves them and will never forget them even in hard circumstances . And I thanked Him for letting me be part of little bit of heaven tonight. And thank you Dean family for letting us help.

Wow, it is stories like this that make you really thankful for what you do have.

Having been on both the receiving and giving end of this kind of situation it makes you realize how involved the Lord really is in our lives. He allows us to bless others but makes sure we are taken care of also. What a wonderful way to celebrate our Lords birth! Thanks for the story!
